Latest News › Independent 2 Dimensional Dose Calculations

MAPcalc is an advanced QA system for dose verification of IMRT treatment fields. With advancements in radiotherapy such as IMRT and IGRT, independent calculations have grown correspondingly complex. These complex treatment techniques also do not have uniform dose distributions; therefore the need for a 2 dimensional independent calculation presents itself. Performing independent 2 dimensional calculations manually is not possible due to time constraints. Unlike other independent systems which perform independent calculations for a single point, MAPcalc uses extremely fast and precise algorithms that deliver completely independent calculations for the ENTIRE 2 Dimensional field. Because MAPcalc operates directly within the familiar MapCHECK application, the system is extremely easy to setup and learn.

Patient Selection

Start MAPcalc by selecting the desired patient from the patient file directory. Once a patient is selected all corresponding field files and data for calculation are automatically loaded into the MAPcalc software.

Combine Fields (if applicable)

Split fields are automatically recombined if desired.

Calculate

Comparison criteria are the same as in MapCHECK. Distance to agreement, percent difference, and threshold are all user adjustable. Simply click “Start” to have the independent calculations run for each field.

Summary

A complete summary of all fields is presented at the end of the final field calculation. Any field may be selected for more scrutiny and be analyzed in the MapCHECK software.
