A new highly portable electrometer has been launched in the UK. The PC Electrometer manufactured by Sun Nuclear is a dual channel reference grade instrument. Weighing just 0.4kg the instrument has no batteries or mains power, power is provided by the USB to PC connection. It can be also be powered by the standard power data cable used on all other Sun Nuclear instruments when used in conjunction with the new 1D water scanner.
The unit features two channels both with Triaxial BNC connectivity (adapters are available for TNC-BNC conversion) and a lemo connector temperature probe input. It has less than one minute warm up time and samples at 80µS intervals With a range of +- 400V , a charge of 2pA-10mC with a better than 1fC resolution this is a very high specification instrument
The versatile software provides hide/show functions and can expand the data display for distance viewing. All required calibration factors are stored in the detector library. Fast sampling makes PDD curves smooth and accurate when measured with the PC Electrometer and 1D Scanner.
With a unit cost equal to roughly one third of a convention therapy electrometer and the ability to have data instantly available to physics over the network this device will make absolute dosimetry and much less time consuming and a more user friendly practice. Posted on 28 Sep 2009
